Meaning
A Demi Official letter, in short a DO letter, is a correspondence between officers of different departments of an organization, which is not quite formal in nature, yet has an indirect bearing on an official subject under consideration.
Such correspondence happens when the matter in concern is confidential but not important enough to communicate it as an official letter. This is generally done to save time.
Like official letters, such demi official letters also need to be dated and numbered, if possible. Proper salutation like Dear sir, or Respected madam should be used. Such letters should end with the complimentary close viz. Yours sincerely, Yours faithfully, etc.
A demi-official letter should not be brought on proceedings without a special order from a competent authority or legal forum.
