An organization may engage the services of a firm whether it is for legal counsel, management strategies, manpower planning, architectural designs, or other purposes.
Sometimes, the engagement is on assignment basis and is paid fees on a case-to-case basis. Sometimes, the firm is hired on retainership basis and is paid fixed fees periodically. Such retainership engagement is done under a written contract.
Such a contract generally has a clause on termination of the engagement by either party subject to certain terms. In order to terminate the retainer agreement, one of the parties must send a notice of termination in writing through a letter.
