A standing instruction or standing order is a specific instruction given by an account holder to his bank to make payment of a certain sum of money to the account of another person or organisation on a certain date or dates of each month or periodically as specified by the account holder.
E.g., Raam is an account holder at HBI Bank. Raam has given a standing order to the bank that the bank has to transfer Rs. 10,000 to Shyaam on his account number 1234567890 in SDFC Bank on the 5th day of each month.
The account holder can cancel such standing orders at any time by requesting the bank in writing to cancel the standing instruction. Some banks are providing online options to give such standing orders and to cancel them.
Following is a sample of a letter to the bank manager for cancellation of standing instruction.
